Gingivitis, periodontal disease, inflammation, gum disease: your gums are susceptible to a whole lot of different diseases and infections. Unfortunately, the symptoms of these infections can be as slight as bad breath, making them not just hard to diagnosis but also hard to treat in general. Nonetheless, getting timely periodontic care is vastly important for the upkeep of your general oral health.

Periodontal disease can be the result of several different factors. What these diseases come down to, though, is excess amounts of plaque on your teeth. Plaque is caused by buildup of the naturally occurring bacteria in our mouths. As the bacteria begins to grow, plaque builds ups. Normally plaque can be easily removed by daily brushing and flossing; however, the plaque that lasts through this daily routine can continue to build. Through this process tartar is able to form, which can not be easily removed without a visit to your local dental clinic. The presence of tartar in the mouth can cause the gums to become inflamed, bleed, and recede, as well as very painful and sore. If these symptoms (most commonly referred to as symptoms of gingivitis) are left unchecked, periodontal disease can develop, which causing permanent damage to the gums and structures of the mouth.
